Design Your Dream Wedding (Part 1: Selecting Table Linens)

Updated: 4 days ago

A vibrant wedding design bursts with daring hues of hot pink, lighthouse yellow, and tangerine roses. The 5-foot round tables feature an eclectic mix of tangerine, canary yellow, pastel pink, and green-gold damask linens, creating a visually striking and cohesive look. The brilliantly colorful reception extends its charm with perfectly coordinated linen napkins and matching monogrammed macarons, leaving guests immersed in a feast for the senses.

When it comes to wedding design, the details often make the biggest impact. Linens are no exception. They don’t just cover your tables; linens set the tone for your entire event. In this first installment of our four-part series on wedding design, we’re diving into the world of linens—because, let’s be honest, nobody wants their wedding to feel like a basic conference banquet, yuck.

Match Your Linens to the Season

When considering décor and linen, embrace the season of your special day.  Embracing seasonality will make your wedding day feel familiar and inviting.  Keep this in mind when selecting linens. The right fabric and color can elevate your wedding from “meh” to unforgettable.

Winter: We love the cozy elegance of heavy fabrics like crushed velvet or brocade in rich, deep tones during the winter. Think emerald, burgundy, navy, and even luxurious metallics like gold or silver. These linens not only add a touch of warmth but scream opulence.

Elegant table setting with dusty blue tablecloths, nude linen napkins, blush roses with cream hydrangeas centerpieces, and white pillar candles. Wooden chairs surround the table. Soft, airy ambiance for a subtle spring wedding.

Spring: As nature blooms, so should your tablescape. Light, airy fabrics like chiffon and overlays paired with pastel hues—blush, lavender, peach fuzz, mint—create a fresh and dreamy vibe.

Summer: This is your time to be bold! Bright colors and fun patterns are the way to go. Pair these with breezy fabrics for a playful yet polished look. Picture vibrant corals, sunny yellows, turquoise blues, peach fuzz. (Yes, we mentioned peach fuzz twice, but opting for this color is a great way to incorporate the Pantone “color of the year” :) )

Autumn: Cozy, warm tones like rust, burnt orange, and deep plum rule the season. Heavy silks and layering textured linens complement the rich color palette and add a layer of sophistication.

Practical Tips: Size Matters

Selecting the right size linen for your table isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s also about practicality. Nobody wants a tablecloth that’s too short (awkward!) or so long it becomes a tripping hazard. Here’s your cheat sheet:

Why Linens Are the MVP of Event Design

Think of your linens as the foundation of your design. Linens can be used to  tie together your color scheme, enhance your theme, and set the tone for your guests. Whether you’re planning a grand ballroom reception or an intimate garden gathering, table linens can be the supporting actor that steals the show.

Pro Tip: For head tables, avoid seating guests directly in front of the couple. Not only does this give the newlyweds their moment to shine, but it also ensures photos are stunning.
